Alaska Grizzly Safaris & Jacques Adventure Lodge
Providing The Ultimate Wildlife Experience Since 1978.
If wildlife photography of grizzly or brown bears and walruses, Hiking to see Dall sheep, and fishing for the best salmon in the remote parts of Alaska has always been your dream.
Join Jerry and his crew on a fully guided Adventure Vacation with 5 aircraft always standing by to fly our 12 guests to over 127 different locations. His clients exclusively use the 5 aircraft, including 2 float planes (seaplanes), 3 bush planes on tundra tires, and 10 jet boats. That is what sets him apart from others. Their aircraft are always with you or at the lodge waiting, and they can cover a 30,000-square-mile area, including Katmai, Lake Clark National Parks, & the Bristol Bay Watershed. Having the plane stay with you all day is a huge advantage allowing us always to be where the best bear activity, wildlife photography, hiking, or fishing adventure are. More importantly, they take off for the lodge or a different location if bad weather is blowing in.

Here is an example of A Customizable All-Inclusive Itineraries:
Day 1
Depart from Anchorage at 3:00 PM on Iliamna Air Taxi's PC-12 turboprop plane at the Iliamna Airport at 4:00 PM. Our staff will greet you and provide transportation to the lodge; the crew will help get everyone's gear into their cabins. Each of our 5 cabins has a full bathroom and 2 beds.
After settling into your cabin, the main lodge will serve hor oeuvres in the "great room," with its amazing panoramic Lake Iliamna and Roadhouse Mountain views.
Once everyone has gathered at the lodge, orientation will begin. This meeting ensures all questions get answered regarding what the week will consist of. Next, everyone will be individually fitted with state-of-the-art Gore-Tex waders and wading boots, all supplied by the lodge. The gear is lightweight, comfortable for all-day wear, and impervious to the weather!
Their chef Cindy has prepared a multi-course, gourmet dinner that will be served at 7:00 PM. After eating together as a group, we discuss all possible customized options, such as hiking, wildlife viewing, and fishing; Planning is done nightly over the next 5 days. Once details are set, and everyone knows where they are going, what equipment to get, and what aircraft to the board in the morning, you are free to spend the remaining daylight hours as you wish.
Day 2-4
After a hearty breakfast, you will board one of the lodge's aircraft, and the adventure begins! Their fleet of 5 seaplanes is capable of landing on rivers and lakes. Their tundra-tired bush planes on beaches, gravel bars, and ridge tops. Planes, paired with Jacques's 12 boats, will make the most of your visit. If you are a photography buff, you've set out to capture images of coastal brown bears fishing in Katmai National Park. If you are interested in hiking, how about viewing Dall sheep on the high alpine tundra to walking a 50-mile-long black beach? Fishermen dream of being flown into remote rivers for salmon.
Day 5 ( there are two possible options)
Today, half of the people in your group have decided to fly to Twin Lakes to view and photograph the Dick Proenneke log cabin. (One Man's Wilderness). You shoot photos while flying over the turquoise water of Lake Clark of the scenery, Dall sheep in the higher tundra, Caribou, and glaciers of Lake Clark National Park. The plane will touch down on Upper Twin Lake, a mere 100 yards from the historic homestead site built by Dick Proenneke.
The second half of your group has decided to take a 2-day expedition into the most remote, rugged, and wildest part of Alaska. The Bering Sea, its beautiful beaches, and hopping wildlife are sights few humans get to see. Leaving at 6:00 AM and landing at Walrus Point and the Seal Islands, you will be greeted with the unmistakable stench of walrus. With the walrus situated upwind, you may approach without disturbing them. These islands often display 200-400 seals hauled out on the beach.
With walruses all around, swans nesting in the salt grasses, eagles patrolling the cliffs and waters from above, and sea otters playing in the surrounding streams, Caribou, moose, and bear are also expected to see along the way. The group will camp at an old native trapper's cabin overlooking the Bering Sea and let the waves on the rocks lull them to sleep.
Day 6
For those who camped out overlooking the Bering Sea, your day will consist of capturing whatever photos you missed the previous day and combing the beach for treasures washed ashore—a departure from Walrus Point by noon. From there, they will fly to a nearby native village to refuel the planes and bellies with a local meal. They will arrive back at the lodge in time for dinner.
For the people who stayed at the lodge the previous night, they will spend the day floating the Copper River. There they can film and photograph the pods of Red Salmon in the clear water, see bears, and perhaps catch a trophy rainbow trout! As one of Alaska's first trophy rainbow trout fisheries, you will not be disappointed. A long day on the river will have you anticipating dinner.
Both groups will return to the lodge for dinner.
Day 7
Today is the last day of the trip. To wrap things up, there will be enough time to change from your field clothes into something more comfortable and get a quick shower in before our staff transports the group back to Iliamna Airport for the evening flight back to Anchorage.
