Australia- The Land Down Under

My Epic Must Do's Bucket List - Australia

Grab your camera and venture into the outback! We all know that Australia is home to tons of breathtaking beaches, but there is so much more to this diverse country. Sure, explore Sydney, soak up some sun on the Gold Coast, and snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef, but be sure to check out the rest of what makes Australia so beautiful. From vast deserts and incredible wildlife to artsy cities and indigenous culture, discover the magic down under.

Admire street art in Melbourne

If Melbourne were a room, street art would be its wallpaper. This artsy city is filled with the eye-widening works of local artists! Hit Hoiser Lane and Centre Place, where you'll find a new masterpiece with every step you take.

Stand in awe of Wallman Falls in Girringun National Park, Queensland.

Located in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics in the northern region of Queensland, this cascading waterfall will keep you mesmerized for days.

Gawk at the magic of Flinders Ranges

Take in the beauty of the most extensive mountain range in southern Australia! Located just about 100 miles north of Adelaide, the Flinders Ranges run discontinuously for close to 300 miles.

Take in the beauty of Kakadu National Park.

Talk about biodiversity. Kakadu National Park in Australia's Northern Territory is home to approximately 2,000 plant and wildlife species and prehistoric Aboriginal rock paintings!

See a cute lil' quokka in Rottnest Island!

Just offshore from Perth in Western Australia, Rottnest Island is home to the adorable little marsupials known as quokkas. Once you've taken all your photos, relax on white-sand beaches and discover secluded coves!

Drink wine in Yarra Valley, Victoria

Surrounding the Yarra River, this region near Melbourne is known for its rolling greenery and beautiful wineries. Sip a glass of Shiraz and cheer for an unforgettable experience.

Get caught in the Wave Rock in Hyden.

No, that's not a tidal wave - it's a natural rock formation! Coming in at about 49ft in height and 360ft in length, the Wave Rock is the perfect place for a fun photo-op.

Hop around with kangaroos and see the "remarkable rocks" on Kangaroo Island

Just off the mainland of South Australia, Kangaroo Island is a must. Over one-third of the island comprises protected nature reserves, making it the perfect place to cuddle a koala, see kangaroos, spot seals, and see penguins! Be sure to check out the island's "remarkable rocks," a noteworthy natural attraction!

Take photos of The Pinnacles in Nambung National Park, Western Australia.

These limestone formations are just downright incredible. Explore this fantastic dessert that will make you feel like you're in another world!

Visit Uluru, Northern Territory

Uluru, also known by its former name of Ayers Rock, is not just a natural wonder; it's also a sacred indigenous site! This massive formation is in the heart of the Northern Territory's arid "Red Center" - the perfect place to experience Australia's iconic outback.

BEST TIME TO GO TO PATAGONIA

People worldwide are fascinated by the trappings and unsanctioned wonders of nature and wildlife. It’s one reason why Patagonia, one of my favorite places to visit, the vast southernmost tip of South America shared by Argentina and Chile, is such an attractive destination to nature-minded explorers drawn to this region from this region all corners of the world. The entire Patagonian region is known for its abundance of scenic mountaintops, beautiful glaciers, and a wide array of wildlife in sub-polar climates. Patagonia is a vast region near the southern tip of South America, comprising over 673,000 square kilometers of an area covering the most southern end of the continent northbound to the Colorado River that spans most of the land between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Like much of South America, the continent was inhabited long before European explorers first ventured west searching for the new world. The Tehuelche tribes were the most prominent locals before European colonization. They traversed the northern desert-like regions of Patagonia and the southern polar-like tips of the coast. Famed explorer Ferdinand Magellan was the first European adventurer to arrive on the shores of Patagonia and ingratiate himself with the locals, the wildlife, and the land itself. This discovery allowed more explorers to venture into the region and establish trading posts that helped expand the prosperity of nations that rose across the continent. Patagonia is politically divided between Argentina and Chile as both countries comprise the bottom third of South America.

Visiting Patagonia from March to May

Summer and winter in the northern and southern hemispheres are opposites. When it’s summer in the north, winter conditions cover the south and vice versa. Experienced adventurers recommend that people only visit Patagonia during the summer and early fall times of the year. Roughly translated, this means people should attempt to visit Patagonia from March to May, while January and February could also work for travel, depending on how cooperative the weather conditions are at those times. The Chilean side of Patagonia is ideal for summertime adventures. There are several destination highlights in Patagonia you can experience, including a trip to the Cape Horn biosphere on the island of Cape Horn, south of the mainland. You’ll witness thousands of tiny plants, mosses, and lichens that survive through the strong winds and powerful waves crashing all across the island’s shores. Additionally, you can enjoy an adventure to the Diego Ramirez Islands and the Beagle Channel. This historic waterway reminds explorers of island conditions first encountered by the first European expedition teams to this part of the world.

Best time to visit Patagonia for photography

The land and the water that encompass Patagonia are incredible. You’ll come across some of the most photographic landscapes you’ll ever witness when visiting Patagonia.

Some experienced explorers have traversed the region several times over. Their stories - both recorded and passed down through storytelling - can help you enjoy the best experience possible when you visit Patagonia. Read this guide on how to experience Patagonia on a glacier cruise, and you’ll get a more detailed idea of what to expect when you arrive on these southern shores. If you’re not pumped yet, you will be after reading that!

10 TOP REASONS TO VISIT COSTA RICA

Costa Rica is not only considered one of the world’s happiest countries, but it is also one of the most bio-diverse countries on the planet. Offering everything from lush jungles to sunny coastlines, the raw power of Costa Rica stays with travelers' long traveler bio-diverse they’ve returned. If you’re thinking about Costa Rica on your next escape, here are the top 10 reasons you should visit.

10  Coffee

Costa Rica’s main export is coffee, and you’d better believe they know what they’re doing! With nearly 400 million coffee trees growing in the country, more than 300 different varieties of Arabica coffee come from Costa Rica. Arabica beans are so beloved; there is even an executive order banning the growth or production of any other type of coffee bean.

9  Cool Vernacular

Instead of saying “hello” or “hola” as a greeting, Costa Ricans generally greet each other with a cheery “Pura Vida.” More than a term that translates to “pure life,” Pura Vida is a way of life. “Nos Juimos” is used to mean “we’re outta here” but is usually shortened to “N.J.,” which sounds like “en-ay hota.” Some Costa Ricans refer to their partners as “media Naranja,” which translates to “the other half of the orange.”

8  Hatching Sea Turtles

Hit Costa Rica during nesting season if you are ready to watch one of nature’s most awe-inspiring miracles! Leatherbacks nest from March to July on the Caribbean coast and September through March on the Pacific Coast.

7  Outdoor Activities

White-water rafting, surfing, hiking, horseback riding,zip-lining, canyoning, waterskiing, even volcano surfing (which is excellent), boat tours of hidden beaches, beach massages, and the Fiestas Civicas you can enjoy! No matter your physical fitness level, if you’re bored in Costa Rica, you’re not doing it right.

6   Monteverde Cloud Forest

This dreamy forest is located so high in the Tilaran mountain range; most of it is usually covered in clouds! You’ll need a raincoat and some warm clothes since the clouds typically produce a steady drizzle, but you can get it here in spades if you’re looking for surreal beauty.

5   Volcanoes

There are over a dozen volcanoes in Costa Rica, including the 5,358-foot tall Arenal Volcano. The country’s three volcanic range systems include the Guanacaste Range, the Central Volcanic Range, and the Talamanca Range, comprised of only one volcano: the El Viejo.

4   The Rio Celeste

Located in the Tenorio Volcano National Park, the Rio Celeste is an 8-mile stretch of stunningly blue water. This hidden gem is gorgeous in real life as in photos and gets its color from the water reflecting light in the river, creating an optical illusion. Local legend says the color of the water results from God washing his paintbrushes after painting the sky.

3   The Animals

In a country that boasts the most species of hummingbirds in one place, you’re sure to experience a wide range of wildlife you wouldn’t encounter anywhere else! Sloths, monkeys, frogs, birds, and even jaguars live here, so keep aware of your surroundings and never approach an animal in the wild!

2  The Beaches

Bordering both the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, Costa Rica offers excellent beaches on both coasts. With beaches offering black, white, pink, brown, and tan sand, you’ll be able to hunt down the perfect spot with precisely the aesthetic your Instagram has come to expect from you. No matter which coast you’re on, there’s sure to be a pristine beach very close by.

1   The  People

Costa Rica is not only considered one of the world’s happiest countries, but it is also one of the most bio-diverse countries on the planet.
